What’s the difference between 3 or 4 axis and 5-axis CNC machining

Traditional 3 or 4 Axis Machining

For many decades,it has been well known to manufacturers and other players in the industrial sector,as well as in many other domains like architecture,design and art.It is a relatively simple process,using conventional machining tools like the milling machine,which allows material to be worked on X,Y,Z axes. So the 3-axis machining is one of the most widely used techniques to make mechanical parts. There’s something weakness is that the machining tool then proceeds to remove shavings in three basic directions to the axis of a flat surface.It’s very suitable for the parts that are not too deep,but this technique is greatly limited when need do a deeper part with narrow cavities,then the work will become very labour-intensive and less perfect surface.

 

Anyway the advantages of the 3 or 4 axis machining is much efficient,cheaper cost,and also accurate machining of simple parts and enclosure.Also wide variety of word holding available.
More advanced technology 5-Axis Machining

As its name indicates,5-axis machining offers three linear axes and two rotational axes that work simultaneously to achieve complex surface machining.The 3+2-axis machining offers a 3-axis milling process ,with two additional axes to rotate the hold tool in a fixed position as opposed to manipulating it repetitively during the machining process. And 5-axis requires longer preparation timing but waste less material handling.
